what to see and do

The Dordogne is a food and wine lovers’ paradise. Many restaurants in this area specialise in the food of the region, such as duck, cep mushrooms, walnuts and truffles, prunes and of course Fois Gras, together with a large selection of prestigious Bordeaux wines and many from the local Bergerac vineyards too.

There are numerous things to do and see in this beautiful area and the Bastide (fortified) and Medieval towns and villages are a must. Within a 15 minute drive are the towns of Beaumont with its spectacular church and market square, Belves with its Trogaladite caves and Monpazier, considered to be one of the prettiest villages in France. There are numerous Chateaux in the Dordogne Valley, many of which are open to the public and some are even supposed to be haunted, but all offer an insight in France's colourful history.

Horse riding and golf are easily accessible and we can reserve these on your behalf.

The Dordogne and Vezere rivers are within about 12 kms. and both offer fishing and canoeing in their relatively shallow waters. On one stretch of the Dordogne there are five separate Chateaux to be seen along its banks.

This region also has the greatest concentration of prehistoric sites and all are very popular with children.

During July and August many local towns and villages stage special evening food markets with food to buy together with local wine all to be consumed in a party atmosphere whilst listening to live music.
